Back in my college days, there was this guy, Ben.
Ben was a good looking guy.
He was a great looking guy.
He was in the football team, and the girls loved him.
I was 18, I wanted to talk to some girls, but I was invisible.
Ben not only had great looks, he had a great body.
I was fat with man boobs and had a broken leg from an accident.
Ben was a really cool and awesome guy.
I was socially awkward and didn’t know how to talk to girls, or talk to anyone really.
Heck, there was a time when Ben was absent from a concussion.
I went in, and I was STILL invisible to the girls in my class.
They were busy dreaming about Ben and his concussion and how they wished they could be there with him to comfort him.
I hated Ben.
Well, I WANTED to hate Ben, but he was too much of a cool guy.
Ben was nice to everyone.
One day, a whole bunch of us were standing outside our classroom, we were waiting for the lesson to start.
Ben comes up to me, and stands really close.
We were having a conversation, and Ben was just standing really close.
He was totally invading my private space and was right up in my face.
He wasn’t being mean or anything, but he was just standing so close, it felt weird.
I wondered if he was gay.
He was eating this yogurt with a spoon.
And the one thing I remember about the content of our conversation, was Ben telling me how much he loves eating yogurt.
He said something along the lines of, “I love eating yogurt, I always just want to keep eating yogurt, I’m always eating yogurt, I can’t help it”.
“What a strange thing to say”, I thought to myself.
I hated yogurt.
Yogurt is sour, sour was never my thing, I like sweet stuff.
I like chocolate, cakes cookies, sodas, those are the things I could eat all day. Who the hell likes YOGURT that much?
Later in life I realized that hey, Ben’s preference for sour and my preference for sweet, is probably the biggest reason why Ben was lean and muscular, and I was fat with man boobs.
Sweet foods contain sugar, and sugar causes an insulin spike, which leads to insulin resistance and just lots of insulin floating around in your body.
This not only makes you fat, but it also makes you grow man boobs.
The extra fat in your body stores the female hormone estrogen. Body fat also contains an enzyme (called aromatase), which converts testosterone to estrogen.
Not only that, but there’s an inverse relationship between how much insulin you have in your body and how much testosterone. The more insulin there is floating around, the less testosterone.
Low testosterone and high estrogen means you grow man boobs.
Sour foods like yogurt are sour because they LACK sugar.
Yogurt is made when you add healthy bacteria to milk. These healthy bacteria convert the lactose sugars in milk into lactic acid, which is what gives yogurt its sour taste.
The awesome thing about yogurt is that the good bacteria (probiotics) in yogurt are known to improve insulin sensitivity, improve glucose metabolism, and help reduce body fat.
A 2017 study found that giving men probiotics improved their sperm count, volume of ejaculate, sperm concentration, and sperm motility.
It also increased their testosterone levels, while levels of the man boob growing hormones, estrogen and prolactin, were unchanged.
But that was using a specific probiotic supplement, not yogurt.
Studies using yogurt are not as impressive.
This is because yogurt comes with both good and bad.
Standard store-bought yogurt comes from cows that are pumped with estrogen and milked during pregnancy, so they contain super-high levels of estrogen.
So standard store-bought yogurt contains the good – probiotics (plus protein and healthy fat), and the bad – estrogen.
So the good and bad in standard store-bought yogurt cancels one another out, and you’re left with something that has no benefit or very little benefit.
To get the best benefit from yogurt, I would suggest eating yogurt that has the following properties:
- organic (this ensures the cow was not treated with hormones or antibiotics)
- made from raw (unpasteurized) milk (this will make sure the yogurt contains more beneficial enzymes and bacteria)
- from pasture-raised animals (when cows graze on grass (as opposed to being grain-fed), the micronutrient goodness from their diet ends up in their milk)
- from cows that are not milked during pregnancy (to ensure low estrogen levels)

Here’s something BETTER than yogurt:
Better than yogurt is kefir.
Kefir is a sour, yogurt-like drink made from milk.
But kefir has a much larger range of bacteria than yogurt, and unlike yogurt, it also contains beneficial yeasts.
While the good bacteria in yogurt pass through the digestive tract, the good bacteria in kefir COLONIZE the intestinal tract, meaning they last much longer and have a much longer-lasting and more aggressively beneficial effect.
You can buy kefir starter grains online, and make your own kefir using the best source of milk you can find. This is the healthiest, most beneficial way to drink kefir.
But if convenience is important to you, you can find ready-made kefir nowadays at the grocery store.
You’re unlikely to find kefir made from milk that meets ALL the above 4 criteria, but get the best you can, I’m sure you can at least find organic kefir.
So with yogurt, the bad cancels out the good.
With kefir having much more of the good, it’s much more likely the good will outweigh the bad.
